Madison Democrat Doug La Follette was first elected Wisconsin secretary of state in 1974. He served one four-year term, ran unsuccessfully for lieutenant governor, and then was elected again to the post in 1982. He has held the secretary of state position since then. He is seeking re-election in 2018.
